Drivers often debate the effectiveness of pick-and-go (PNG) versus scheduled bookings within ComfortDelGro (CDG). PNG allows for immediate passenger pickups, potentially leading to higher earnings. In contrast, bookings are set in advance and may not coincide with times when demand is highest. This raises the question: what benefits does driving for CDG actually offer?
This situation sheds light on a glaring issue with CDG's system, putting drivers in a bind between choosing the reliability of bookings and the earning potential of PNG. It suggests that CDG needs to revisit its booking system to better accommodate drivers' needs. The current setup not only hampers drivers' ability to maximize their earnings but also casts doubt on CDG's dedication to supporting its drivers effectively.
Cancellations and no-shows can significantly affect a driver's earnings. On average, reaching a booking takes about 6 minutes and covers 2.4km. If the booking isn't honored, the driver loses at least 10 minutes. With an average of 100 no-shows per month, a high acceptance driver loses about 200 man-hours yearly, equating to a $6000 loss.
Additionally, fuel costs amount to S$302, including $67.68 in duties tax and $24.93 in GST. This scenario doesn't just represent lost time but also unnecessary expenses on fuel and taxes for situations beyond the driver's control. And if a driver has to move to another location for the next pickup, these costs can double, further increasing the financial burden.
